Western Digital notifies customers of a recent data breach that has occurred on its online store, according to a letter sent by Vice President Eyal Bek on May 5th, 2023. Following the discovery of the incident, the company swiftly launched an investigation with the help of leading forensic and security experts, while also cooperating with law enforcement.

The investigation revealed that an unauthorized party had gained access to a Western Digital database containing limited personal information of online store customers on or around March 26th, 2023. The compromised data included customer names, billing and shipping addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers. However, hashed passwords (which were salted) and partial credit card numbers were stored in an encrypted format.

As a precautionary measure, the company has temporarily suspended online store account access and the ability to make online purchases. They are expected to restore access to the accounts by the week of May 15th, 2023.

In light of the incident, Western Digital has advised customers to be cautious of unsolicited communications that request personal information, avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails, and check their email account’s spam settings to detect or block any suspicious emails.
